Tonight we have rain once again. When the rain comes it comes in large quantities. I am grateful for the rain. The street lights have a tint of orange and haze to them through the window. Songs run through my head and tickle my lips silently. My shoes are old and of no use to me when walking through mirrors that soak my feet. When are we happy? What makes us smile, laugh, brim and rest easy? God allows the rain to come down equally on the righteous and the foreigner to his arms. To me, as His child I take the wash thankfully. There is nothing I did to deserve this breath that I take. Yesterday I walked through from the girls home back in the wood into town to hail a taxi. They were not on call because of the rain. I paced myself quickly and sparingly-not. My mission was to get to town as soon as possible. My chest was heavy and my head cold was asking me if I had lost all sense by walking in the rain. It was wonderful. The bright green rain jacket I wore protected me from most of the water. And I made it back to the girls home with a taxi in twenty minutes or so. It could have been sunny out but it was wet and sloppy. In that moment I was so grateful. Because god gave me a rainy walk and the ability to get a taxi to my friend at the girls home. A gift. And at night when it rains the water rushes down our drainpipes and dances on the tin roof. It meshes well with me and quiets Sucua down for a peaceful sleep.
Reaching with the tip of our toes we try our best to get past moments of "discomfort." In the midst of these inconveniences and unpleasant happenings we often focus on the negative. In reality these things are only wasting our time, numbing our hearts and creating meaningless frowns. Who wants to frown when there is so much to smile about? Breath in our lungs, feet that take us places, music created by our Heavenly Father on a tin roof and serving our fellowman. We are a blessed people. There is nothing that can bring you down when you remember all the ups in life along side the drops. This is what I have learned: Be grateful in all things with thanksgiving from you heart and fruit from your lips. Learn to be joyful in all situations and take pleasure in the simple things that will drive you to joy and away from discomfort.
The ride of life. There is nothing better than His ever-present contentment and overflowing joy. Let Him rain on you sometime or other. It´s a nice reminder to me of His wonderful blessings.
Thank you, Lord for the rain in my shoes.
